Palm Fiber Carpet

Palm Fiber Carpet pays homage to the country’s rich heritage of traditional AlSadu – or horizontal style – weaving; a colourful, woven textile produced by Bedouin women using a ground loom. The AlSadu process begins with the cutting of natural fibres – such wool, fur or hair – which are then sorted according to their length and colour and cleaned by being blown and shaken to rid it of any excess plant material, dust or soil. It was a communal activity, bringing together families of weavers who would use the opportunity to share stories as they worked. Primarily utilising palm tree fibres, the intricate craftsmanship of this piece draws upon the artist's familial connection to the professional tradition of weaving, lending an additional element of authenticity to the tapestry.
