Wild Clay of Qatar: Heenat Salma Recidency
During my eight-month residency at Heenat Salma farm in Qatar, I embarked on an intensive exploration of wild clay, pushing beyond traditional pottery to investigate its diverse applications in contemporary life. The journey began with field research, identifying and documenting rich clay deposits in the local landscape.
Through hands-on experimentation, I discovered the complexity of working with wild clay, particularly the intricate process of preparing and conditioning the material. A significant part of my research focused on the mixing techniques required to enhance the clay's malleability, making it suitable for various applications beyond conventional ceramics.
This investigation culminated in two major outputs: a comprehensive publication documenting my findings and a series of experimental vessels that showcase the material's potential. The project also included a detailed metal study, examining the relationship between clay composition and its practical applications in homes, paint formulation, and even culinary possibilities
